Performance in Reiki conference
During the time, we had noticed that audience can get more satisfaction from watching Indian dance if the meaning of the gestures is explained or the story behind the dance is told.
Nritya Margam was a concert which included dance performances and lectures. Each of us had to prepare some part of the lecture material. We gave a short overview on Bharata Natyam history and classical dance repertoire (margam). We explained the meaning of the dance items we performed. With demonstrations we introduced audience to dance technique (hastas, pada-bheda, karanas, adavu, jati) and emotional aspects of dance (abhinaya, rasa, bhava).
The fairy tale house Undine in Jurmala (city near the Baltic sea) has always welcomed our dance performances. Although Undine is informal organization to support and practice old Latvian traditions and life style, Indian dance fits there very well, because of great spirituality, love and goodwill prevailing in both – Bharata natyam and Undine. There I remember to have the most sincere performances.
I gave short performance in Tibet Kailash Haus before Indian music concert.
The manager of the Ayurveda Center surprised her clients with an Indian dance performance.
This was an extensive performance in two parts at private birthday party in restaurant Shalimar (Rieselfeld).
The first time I performed with Bharata Natyam in Freiburg, was in my WG. Sometimes when I was dancing in my room, my neighbours got curious: ” What’s that for sound? What’s going on there?” They were surprised to find out that it is Indian dance I am practising. So once we organised India evening with my performance, Indian food and Indian dresses. Also some friends of my neighbours and some of my study mates were present.
